Being the oldest engineering discipline in vogue, Civil Engineering is the father of all engineering disciplines. With such a distinguished history behind it and centuries of accumulated knowledge and skills it becomes a delicate and often onerous task while framing the course curriculum to do justice to the reservoir of knowledge inherited from the past while at the same time reconciling it to the dramatic changes brought about by the digital revolution. While framing a dynamic and all-inclusive course curriculum emphasis has been laid on including the basic aspects of all facets of the discipline, namely, construction materials, structural analysis, structural design in steel and concrete, water resources engineering, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, surveying and geotechnical engineering. At the same time, in recognition of the importance of computer applications, courses like structural analysis in particular, have been framed in such a manner as to encourage the student to exploit the potential of computers for solving engineering problems. A strong curriculum is only one important component of the tripod of the Departments competitiveness. The second component is a competent, well-qualified and dedicated faculty and supporting staff. Civil Engineering is a most sought after programme these days as the demands for Civil Engineering is growing significantly. The economic development of country cannot be achieved without core infrastructural facilities. This field of study is one of the core areas of engineering which plays important role in the development process.

Civil engineering primarily covers activities of engineering discipline from planning, designing and construction of buildings to development of water supplying structures. Besides designing, planning or construction of buildings, some other major application fields of civil engineering industry are management of residential and commercial buildings, transportation system, fields regarding water supplying activities, and environmental fields, which is basically studied for the maintenance and enhancement of quality of life. Civil engineering specifically deals with the activities of designing and construction of structures like bridges, dams, harbors, canals, roads, tunnels, and water-supply systems, power plants, aircraft, water-treatment plants etc.

Civil engineering has the potential to build a strong economy and so more multinational companies and engineers are showing their interests to be involved with this industry. With the development of society and because of technological advancement, demands of civil engineering activities are also increasing.

The basic facilities have already been created to provide the students the best exposure and hands on training.
